Preble County Probate Court Records

The Preble County Probate Court is the sole agency in the county with the authority to issue marriage licenses under Ohio law. The court maintains marriage records from 1808 to the present. Staff can help you look up any marriage record in that range and provide certified copies upon request.

The marriage license fee in Preble County is $70, payable in cash or check only. Both applicants must be present at the time of application, and at least one must be a resident of Preble County. If neither applicant lives in the county, a letter from the officiant is needed. This letter must include the names of the people being married, the ceremony location, and the date. Each applicant needs valid photo ID such as a driver's license. If either person was married before, the Final Decree of Divorce or Dissolution for all prior marriages must be shown.

Once the ceremony takes place, the officiant fills out the bottom of the license and returns it to the court within 31 days. After that, the court can provide certified copies. Each certified copy costs $2.00.

Marriage License Rules in Preble County

Ohio sets the basic rules for marriage licenses under ORC Chapter 3101. In Preble County, both applicants must appear in person at the Probate Court. There is no waiting period.
